GoTrack frequently asked questions
The questions retail operations, technology and data-protection teams ask us most, answered directly.
What is GoTrack?
GoTrack is retail vision-analytics software made by GOTONOM in İstanbul. Using store cameras, it measures product interaction on the shop floor — which product and colour is picked up, how long it is held and whether it is put back — and shows that product's content on the nearest screen.
Does GoTrack count people?
On request, yes. GoTrack's standard reports are about products: what shoppers pick up, hold and put back. For stores that also need visitor numbers, GoTrack can count visitors with the same cameras, anonymously and without face recognition; it is set up per project.
Does GoTrack use face recognition?
No. There is no face recognition, no face template, no biometric matching, and no shopper is recognised across visits.
Can GoTrack show the age and gender of the shoppers who engage with a product?
Not today. Audience insights — age range and gender per product, as aggregate reports — are in development and are not active in any store. Today GoTrack does not estimate age or gender.
Are images processed in the store or in the cloud?
In the store. Images are analysed on a device in the store and are not sent to the cloud for analysis. Only product events and device health reach the cloud, which is also why recognition and screens keep working without internet.
Does GoTrack record camera footage?
Not by default: each analysed frame is discarded. If debug recording is switched on, the files stay on the store device and are deleted after 30 days by default. The only image that reaches the product catalogue is one an authorised user deliberately adds as a product photo.
Does GoTrack work without processing personal data?
GoTrack does not store images, identify anyone or send personal data to the cloud, but it does process camera images in real time on the store device. How that is classified under KVKK or GDPR, and the notices it needs, is for the retailer's legal team to assess as data controller.
Can GoTrack mask staff areas and analyse only the shopping area?
There is no pixel-level privacy masking. Analysis is limited to the shelf zones defined for each camera. Today, keeping staff areas out of view means aiming the camera at the shelf and the shopping area.
Does GoTrack work with our existing cameras?
Usually. IP cameras with RTSP, ONVIF cameras, HTTP streams and USB cameras are supported. The camera must see the shelf; if an existing camera does not, an extra camera may be needed.
Can we manage the screens in all our stores from one place?
Yes. Every store's screens are paired, grouped and managed from one web panel — content, playlists, layouts and live status — and a screen that goes offline is flagged.
Can GoTrack send data to our ERP, loyalty or BI system?
Yes, through webhooks and exports. Each product interaction can be sent to your endpoint as a webhook signed with HMAC-SHA256, and every report can be exported as CSV or PDF. There is no ready-made ERP, POS, loyalty or CRM connector.
Can GoTrack tell marketing which products are examined, and for how long?
Yes. It reports pickups per product and variant, average hold time, put-back rate, products compared together and never-touched products. It measures how long a product is held, not how long someone stands in front of it.
What happens if the store's internet goes down?
Recognition, screens and event recording carry on in the store. Screens play their stored content, and events wait on the device and are sent with their real times when the connection returns.
Does GoTrack work for chains with many branches?
Yes. Several stores and brands are managed from one panel, reports are split per store, and every store device's health is monitored remotely.
How are store devices updated?
Remotely. New versions reach store devices without a site visit, are applied at a quiet moment, and roll back on their own if the new version does not work.
Is GoTrack developed in Türkiye?
Yes. GoTrack is developed in İstanbul by GOTONOM Yazılım Teknolojileri A.Ş.
Where is the data kept?
Camera images are processed on the store device and, by default, never leave the store. For the hosting region and retention of cloud records, ask GOTONOM in writing before purchase.
How do GoTrack screens decide what to show?
When a shopper holds a product, the screen linked to that area shows that product's content, and keeps showing it while the product is held. When no one is holding anything, the screen plays its playlist. The screens do not need to be touchscreens.
Which products does GoTrack work best with?
Garments on racks and shelves, and shoe walls — products a shopper picks up to look at. A garment's size is not read from the image.
Do we need a data-science team to add new products?
No. Adding a product is a guided step in the panel, and product details can be imported from a product page on your website.
Do we need screens to use GoTrack?
No. GoTrack's product analytics works with cameras alone. Screens are optional: add them when you want the shelf to react to the product in hand.
Can GoTrack do lift and learn without sensors?
Yes. When a shopper picks up a product, the screen beside it shows that product's content. GoTrack uses the store's cameras, so there are no sensors, tags or pads on the products, and no touchscreen is needed.
Can a product be presented by holding it up to the camera?
Yes. In presentation mode, a product held up to the camera puts its content on the screen while it is held. It suits showrooms, trade fairs, pop-ups and sales teams.
Can GoTrack show whether sales went up?
Not on its own. GoTrack measures what happens at the shelf — pickups, hold time and put-backs — and does not read POS data. To relate interest to sales, join GoTrack's CSV exports or webhook events with your own sales data.
Can we test a new product placement with GoTrack?
Yes, as a before-and-after comparison: move a product to a new shelf zone or fixture and compare its pickups, hold time and put-backs with the period before. GoTrack shows the change; it does not run statistical tests for you.
What do we need to start with GoTrack?
Cameras that see the shelves (standard IP or USB), a small device in the store that processes the images, and an internet connection for the panel and reports. Screens are optional. The panel is used from a web browser.
How quickly does the screen change when a product is picked up?
In our measurement on 30 September 2026, the screen showed the product within 0.71 s of GoTrack deciding which product was in hand, in all 24 measured fires: a median of 0.35 s with one product on screen and 0.51 s with two. The time from the lift itself to that decision is not yet measured separately.
